Much to the disappointment of the Indian government, the World Health Organisation has used a seperate colour to denote the map of Indian-administered Kashmir.
In its map noting different nations, the global health body has marked Indian-administered Kashmir in grey colour, separate from India which appears in navy blue. On the other hand, the disputed border space of Aksai Chin is demarcated in grey with blue stripes, the identical shade as that of China.
The map is on WHO’s Covid-19 scenario dashboard that shows the most recent pandemic numbers by nation.
While Indian netizens fumed over the depiction, in the disputed Himalayan region internet users used the occasion to recall the promises made by India’s first Prime Minsiter, who had promised a plebiscite in the region.
However, the WHO has clarified that it follows the United Nation guidelines and practice regarding maps.
