Two militants were killed in a gunfight with armed forces in this summer capital city of Jammu and Kashmir.
Reports said two CRPF personnel injured in the encounter have been shifted to a hospital for treatment, where their condition is said to be stable.
The gunfight erupted after militants opened fire on a joint party of Police and CRPF during a cordon and search operation in the Danmar area along the Safakadal-Soura road on Friday morning.
The slain militants were identified as Irfan Ahmad Sofi and Bilal Ahmad Bhat from the Natipora area of Srinagar.
The duo had joined militant outfit The Resistance Front in December 2020 before pledging allegiance to ISJK recently.
Police said the militants had been “instrumental in motivating and recruiting the youth” to join militancy in Srinagar and its adjoining areas.
Arms and ammunition besides incriminating material had been recovered from the site of the encounter, police added.
This is the second encounter between militants and armed forces in Srinagar this month.
On July 4, four militants belonging to The Resistance Front were killed in a gunfight in the nearby HMT area of Srinagar.
