Three Lashkar militants slain in Pulwama, curfew imposed in town; internet snapped

Three Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, including a Pakistani national, were slain in an encounter with armed forces in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, police said.

A gunbattle broke out in Pulwama town of the south Kashmir district after the armed forces launched a cordon-and-search operation following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire on the forces, who retaliated.

Three militants were killed in the gunbattle.

“One of the slain militants had been identified as LeT commander Aijaz @abu Huraira,” the official said, adding the slain ultra was a Pakistani national.

The official said a search operation was going on in the area.

Authorities on Wednesday imposed a strict curfew in Pulwama town following a military operation in the New Colony area of the district.

An official said that curfew has been imposed in the entire Pulwama town “as a precautionary measure” to avert any untoward incident. He said that announcements were made in the town about the curfew.

Internet services have been also snapped in the police district Pulwama as a precautionary measure.
