Targeted killings: Mehbooba says fake narrative of peace exposed, Farooq tells India to wake up

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said the recent spate of killings in Kashmir lays in “tatters” India’s “fake narrative” of normalcy in the Valley.

Three people, including Kashmiri pandit Makhan Lal Bindroo, owner of Srinagar’s prominent pharmacy, were shot dead by suspected militants on Tuesday in separate incidents in Srinagar and Bandipora districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

“With the recent spate of civilian killings in Kashmir GOIs fake narrative of normalcy lies in tatters. An utterly desensitized govt that has devalued human lives & pushed J&K into further peril & chaos by its ruthless policies of collective punishment all in the garb of security,” Mehbooba wrote on Twitter.

The Resistance Front (TRF), which is believed to be an arm of Lasker-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s killings in the Valley.

“Somehow it seems that the law-and-order machinery is breaking and needs to be set right,” Farooq Abdullah said.

His son and vice president of National Conference Omar Abdullah said: “No words of condemnation are enough. May his soul rest in peace,” he said.
