Srinagar-Leh highway shut indefinitely

The administration of India-administered Kashmir on Thursday directed closure of Srinagar-Leh highway for vehicular movement from Friday in view of slippery conditions of the road triggered by the fresh snowfall.

The highway will be closed from Friday till further orders to avoid any mishap.

According to an order issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, P K Pole, “in view of the weather forecast of snowfall, sub-zero temperature & slippery condition of the road from Gagangeer to Zojila, a government committee met informally and decided to close the road which endangers the life and property due to the slippery conditions from Friday to avoid any mishap till further orders.”

Reportedly around 100 vehicles were stranded along the highway, which were on Thursday allowed to ply towards their destination today.
