In a second attack in past three days in summer capital Srinagar of Jammu and Kashmir, suspected insurgents shot dead two policemen on high security airport road on Friday.
Close Circuit footage of the attack showed a pheran-clad gunman charging out at the policemen and firing at them from a very close range with an AK-47 rifle.
The policemen duo were critically wounded in the Baghat on high security airport road and were shifted to a hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
Officials identified the slain policemen as constables Sohail and Mohammad Yousuf.
This is the second attack in the city in the past three days. Militants shot at and injured son of a restaurant owner in high security Dalgate-Durganag area of the city on Wednesday.
Police on Friday said three newly recruited The Resistance Front militants have been arrested for the Dalgate attack.
The attacks in the city have come as a 24-member delegation of envoys from various countries visited Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday for assessing the ground situation in disputed region.
All the shops n Baghat were shut and traffic movement was stopped.
A local from Baghat, who wished not to be named, said the forces have completely cordoned off the area and searches were underway.
Reports said the gunmen escaped after the attack at the Baghat Chowk, which falls on way to the Srinagar Airport.
Insurgent group, The Resistance Front claimed the attack on policemen, saying such “strikes” will intensify in future. “Attacks will intensify with new strategy,” the pro-freedom armed group said in a statement on the social media.
