Several barracks of Indian border guards were gutted in the fire in Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar on Thursday.
Reports said the fire broke out at around 3:30 am which engulfed about 6 to 7 army barracks at the Tatoo ground in Batamaloo.
The barracks of Sashastra Seema Bal were made of wood and the fire had spread across it easily, fire and emergency officials said.
Sashastra Seema Bal is a border patrol organization. Several of its companies are deployed in Kashmir Valley.
“9 fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the flames,” they said, adding that the fire tenders remained at the spot as there was fears of ammunition triggering off.
The belongings of SSB men including arms and ammunition were completely destroyed.
The officials said that the cause of the blaze is being investigated.
