Second raid at Jammu’s high-security Kotbalwal Jail: mobile phones, SIM cards seized from inmates

The Jammu and Kashmir police have seized mobile phones and SIM cards from some inmates of the high-security Kot Bhalwal Central Jail in Jammu during a surprise search operation on Thursday, officials said.

The raid was conducted by a team of police and the CID wing this morning after specific inputs were received that mobile phones were being used by militants lodged in the jail.

Twelve mobile phones and SIM cards have been seized from them, they said.

Some more items have been recovered as well, reports said.

The team is conducting further searches and questioning inmates and jail staff about how mobiles and SIM cards reached inside the complex, they said.

Terming the seizure of mobile phones as a serious security concern, the officials said that a high-level probe has been initiated in this regard.

“A total of 17 mobile phones have been seized from the jail in the last 15 days,” the officials said.

They said that a high-level probe is going on and they are trying to ascertain who among the prisoners were using mobile phones as use of phones even by militants lodged in the jail cannot be ruled out.
