A youth who went missing recently and had reportedly joined a militant group was arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said in a statement on Thursday.

A police spokesperson in the statement said that the special operation group and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force “intercepted a suspicious person, who was challenged” by the forces who had established a check-point.
As the man was challenged by the police he tried to flee from the spot as also attempted to fire upon the joint party, the statement read.
However, the forces apprehended him tactfully, the police said.
The arrested youth has been identified as Rahil Showkat Dar of Drabgam in the southern district.
Dar had recently gone missing and a missing report was lodged by his family at Police Station in Rajpora.
During his personal search, a pistol and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession, the police statement noted.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 04/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Rajpora and further investigation has been initiated.
