Paramilitary officer wounded in Anantnag grenade attack

A paramilitary officer was wounded when suspected insurgents hurled a grenade and fired at a group of Central Reseve Police Force troopers in Anantnag district of Indian-administered Kashmir late on Thursday.

Reports said insurgents first hurled a grenade and then fired at the C company of 89 battalion of the CRPF at Sangam in the southern district.

The attack took place on the vital and highly fortified Kashmir highway, which is the only road link to connect the valley with the rest of the world.

An official from the government forces said sub-inspector Hardayal Yadav was injured in the firing.

Goverment forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the insurgents, but some reports said that the rebels managed to evade the forces.
