A top Panun Kashmir leader on Monday slammed Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amit Shah, calling him a failed home minister over his statement in the lower house of the Indian Parliament on the rehabilitation of Pandits in the valley.
Dr Agnishekhar, the Panun Kashmir leader said: “Shah gave a shameless speech in the Lok Sabha and the figures he mentioned of the floor of the house were totally wrong.”
The founder of Panun Kashmir, a group that advocates for the cultural rights of Pandits and a homeland, said: Shah told the Parliament that at least 44,000 Kashmir Pandits were getting relief from the Indian government, which is totally wrong. I have confirmed from the Rehabilitation Commissioner’s office in Jammu, the number of Pandits getting monthly dole is less than 22000.”
Shah on last Saturday said that the government has decided to resettle all displaced Kashmiri Pandits in the valley by 2022.
The Indian home minister had said that the government provides Rs 13,000 per month to the families of 44,000 Kashmiri Pandits who have relief cards. “The government also provides free ration and has plans to settle them back in their houses in the Valley by 2022.”
In response, Dr Agnishekhar said Shah may attack Congress but the fact remains that the Kashmir Pandits were displaced when VP Singh was India’s Prime Minister and his government was supported by the right wing BJP. “The BJP didn’t take back support from Singh for the return of Kashmiri Pandits,” he said.
Dr Agnishekhar said that it was shamelessness from Amit Shah to say that the rehabilitation of Kashmir Pandits will be completed by giving 6000 jobs to Pandits, adding the employment package was giving by the Congress-led UPA and not by the BJP.
“This is a question of the return of Kashmiri Pandits, Amit Shah must stop lying through his teeth. He is a failed home minister at every level,” the Panun Kashmir leader said.
Shah had stated that Jammu and Kashmir has been the top priority of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a lot of development projects have been taken up. But Dr Agnishekhar said they were disappointed with the approach of Indian Prime Minister and if things don’t change they will be forced to expose the BJP through its diaspora cadre.
