Over dozen injured in pro-freedom clashes at Pulwama encounter site

Over a dozen residents of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir were wounded during clashes with armed forces at an encounter site on Friday.

Among the injured in Kakpora was a woman, who received a bullet in the lower half of her body. Doctors at the SMHS hospital in Srinagar said they operated upon 25-year-old Ishrat Jan, who is a resident of Samboora in the southern district, and her condition is stable.

The clashes broke out between armed forces personnel and protestors during the military operation in which three pro-freedom militants were slain.

Reports said that a group of protestors assembled near the site and started pelting stones at the armed forces personnel triggering clashes.

Most of the over dozen injured received severe pellet wounds.

A complete shutdown was observed in the district and internet services were also shut.

Police said during the withdrawal of the forces from the encounter site, some youth resorted to stone-pelting and the crowd were dispersed by using non-lethal weapons in which a few people received minor injuries. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated, an official said.
