Militants attack BJP leader’s house in Kashmir capital, trooper killed

Suspected militants attacked the house of a Bharatiya Janata Party leader in which a paramilitary trooper was slain, reports said on Thursday.

The attack on the BJP leader, Anwar Khan, took place in Aari Bagh of Nowgam in summer capital Srinagar.

Khan, however wasn’t present at his house at the time of the attack.

“Militants fired upon the security deployment of BJP leader Anwar Khan deployed at his residence in Nowgam area of Srinagar. A CRPF trooper was injured in the attack,” police officials said.

The CRPF constable Rameez Raja was injured in the attack and was shifted to SMHS hospital in Srinagar but he succumbed to his wounds.

Sources told Voice of Kashmir that militants decamped with the trooper’s rifle.

Khan, is the District General Secretary for the BJP in northern Baramulla district. The BJP recently made him in charge of the Kupawara district.
