Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday claimed to have busted a grenade-throwing module linked with Lashkar-e-Toiba in Awantipora by arresting four militant associates.
The arrested militant associates have been identified as Aqib Manzoor Bhat, Mudasir Ahmed Bhat, Ghulam Mohd Ahanger —residents of Haffu in Tral and Waris Bashir Najar, resident of Sheikh Mohalla Chewa Uller, Tral.
Three-hand grenades have been recovered from their possession, a police spokesman in a statement, adding that Waris Bashir Najar was involved in throwing a grenade on Army camp at Mandoora on 1st March evening.
During preliminary investigation, it came to fore that they were carrying grenade-throwing activities on the directions of Irshad Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Wailoo in North Kashmir’s Pattan, who is currently lodged in Central Jail Srinagar, and Mustakeem Ahmed Ahangar, a resident of Hafoo Tral who too is detained in Central Jail Srinagar in connection with smuggling of weapons case.
Both Mustakeem and Irshad are coordinating militant activities even from Central Jail Srinagar, the spokesman said.
In this regard, a case under FIR number 21/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation has been initiated, the police spokesman said, adding that more arrests are expected in the instant case once further links are investigated and established.
