Gunmen, suspected to be militants, shot dead owner of a leading pharmacy in Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar on Tuesday.
An official said Pandit Makhan Lal Bindroo was fired upon at his shop at Iqbal Park from a close range.
Bindroo was shifted to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital with multiple injuries.
Medical Superintendent SMHS Hospital Dr. Kanwar Jeet Singh said that the person had four bullet wounds. He succumbed to the injuries, he said.
Soon after the shooting, armed forces cordoned off the entire area and conducted searches but last reports said that the attackers had managed to flee.
68-year-old Kashmir Pandit, Bindroo was one of the few among his community who did not migrate out of Kashmir after the onset of militancy in 1990.
He stayed back along with his wife to continue operating his pharmacy Bindroo Medicate.
