An alleged Pakistani militant of the Lashkar-e-Taiba was slain in an encounter with the armed forces in Harwan area of Srinagar city in the early hours of Sunday, police said.
Armed forces launched a cordon and search operation in Harwan following specific input about the presence of militants in the area, he said.
The search operation turned into an encounter after militants fired upon the forces, who retaliated.
In the ensuing gunfight, a militant was killed, the official said.
Police identified the slain militant as Saifullah, a resident of Pakistan’s Karachi.
The slain had infiltrated in 2016 & was active in the general area of Harwan & involved in several cases, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said on Twitter.
He said three Pakistani militants have been killed in Srinagar city in the last 33 days.
They were involved in several attacks on forces, Kumar said.
