A Special Operation Group personnel and a militant were slain while three Indian Army soldiers were injured in a gunfight in Kulgam district on Wednesday, police said.
A police official said that “the operation was launched on Wednesday evening. As the s
forces approached the suspected area in Pariwan village, the hiding militants fired at them, which was retaliated.”
In the gunfight one police personnel Rohit Kumar was killed, while 3 Army soldiers and 2 civilians were injured, the officer said.
“Three soldiers wounded in the gunfight and were shifted to a medical facility,” he added.
The slain militant was from Jaish-e-Muhammad and is yet to be identified, he said.
Inspector General of Police, Vijay Kumar, said the military operation is going on.
