Kashmir police raid houses of four local journalists in Srinagar

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday conducted searches at the houses of four journalists in Srinagar, officials said.

Raids were conducted at the residences of editor-in-chief of a weekly magazine, a reporter working for a Turkish media outlet, a freelance reporter and a reporter who has been associated with several local publications, they said.

While police is tight-lipped about the searches, it is believed that the raids were part of an investigation into a blog post that instigates people against the country and also seeks to malign the image of nationalists in Kashmir, official sources said.
Sources told news agency Kashmir Dot Com that the residence of Showkat Ahmad Matta son of Abdul Samad, a resident of Sheikh Hamza Colony Lal-Bazar was raided by SDPO Nehrupark along with a police team. Matta is the editor in Chief of Kashmir Narrator Magazine. However, as per reports the magazine is not being published since 2019.

They said another team raided the house of Journalist Azhar Qadri son of Farooq Qadri, a resident of Abubaker Colony Bemina. Qadri is said to be working for many news outlets.

They further said the residence of Abbas Shah was raided by SP East along with a police team and Hilal Mir working for TRT Turkey earlier associated with Greater Kashmir was also searched by the police.

A police official said that raids are being conducted with regard to the Kashmir Fight blog case registered at Police Station Kothibagh
