Resistance conglomerate, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference on Sunday strongly condemned the arrest of Kashmiri artist Mudasir Gul who was booked under the draconian Public Safety Act for expressing solidarity, through art, with Palestinians.
The pro-freedom amalgam led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that the artist and others were only expressing their feelings and nowhere in the world is expressing ‘solidarity with a subjugated people a crime’.
Demanding the immediate release of Gul and dozens of others arrested along with him, the APHC said that such policies reflect the same mindset that is displayed by Israel to persecute the Palestinians.
The police detained 32-year-old artist, Gul, on Friday in the wake of a pro-Palestine protest that broke out in Srinagar’s Padshahi Bagh locality.
A mural was drawn by Mudasir on the gates of a spillover channel of Jhelum river near the locality and it showed the weeping face of a woman, her head draped under a Palestinian flag, with ‘We are Palestine’ written in bold, white letters.
Mudasir also participated in the protest along with other youngsters who reportedly set ablaze an Israeli flag. The video of the protest had gone viral on social media.
The APHC also expressed serious concern over the arrest of two sons of late Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai from their residence on Saturday night.
