The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre, a Jordanian think tank, has named Mirwaiz Umar Farooq among the 500 most influential Muslim personalities across the globe.
The Mirwaiz has been listed among the world’s 10 influential Muslim politicians for the seventh consecutive year by the reputed institute.
Topping the list, personalities include King Salman of Saudi Arabia, Ayatollah Khamnai of Iran, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and King Abdullah of Jordan.
Kashmir’s top cleric Mirwaiz continues to be under the house arrest for more than 18 months.
The Jordanian think tank noted: “He has been advocating dialogue with both India and Pakistan so that the aspirations of the Kashmiri people may be realised.”
Specifically mentioning his arrest, the group stated that he has been under house arrest since August 2019.
The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre is an independent research entity affiliated with the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic thought, an international Islamic non-governmental, independent institute headquartered in Amman, the capital of Jordan.
