Three women drug peddlers from Punjab held in Kashmir district

Three women from Punjab’s Amritsar were held along with contraband by Kashmir police in southern Kulgam district.

In a press release, the police said they acted on a tip off and while patrolling the bus stand in the gateway town of Qazigund they found the trio moving suspiciously.

The women, whose identities the police didn’t disclose, were stopped and their belongings were frisked.

“Officers were able to recover 25kgs of poppy straw from their possession,” the police statement noted.

While the police made an appeal to the public to alert them over drug peddling activities, it said the three women, from Cheema Wadi in Amritsar, have been arrested under the anti-narcotics law.

A probe is on to bust the larger drug racket, the police said.
