‘He was left unattended in Jammu jail’: APHC mourns demise of Ashraf Sehrai

Stating that he was left unattended by the authorities till his condition worsened, All Parties Hurriyat Conference on Wednesday expressed grief over the demise of veteran leader and TeH chief Mohammed Ashraf Sehrai.

Sehrai was admitted at GMC in Jammu yesterday after his health started deteriorating at Kot Bhalwal jail, where was facing detention under Public Safety Act (PSA), and passed away this afternoon after a brief illness.

In a statement, APHC while quoting family sources said that Sehrai was suffering from multiple ailments and despite repeated requests by the family that his health is deteriorating, he was left unattended by the authorities till his condition worsened. “APHC deeply regrets this inhumane attitude of the authorities and is pained by it,” it said.

APHC said that despite repeated appeals to release political prisoners lodged in various jails on humanitarian grounds in view of the devastating COVID catastrophe, authorities are playing with their lives.

The statement added that by losing Sehrai people of JK have lost a sincere able and honest leader. Paying rich tributes to him, APHC said that he was dedicated to his party and its ideology and worked tirelessly and selflessly for the people’s movement, suffering lockups, and jails in the course of his life.

The Hurriyat leader’s contribution to the people’s movement will always be remembered and honoured by the people, it said.

APHC said that it once again asks the Government authorities to release all political prisoners.
