A man was injured and at least six structures, including two schools, were damaged as gusty winds amid rain-lashed Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
The 60-year-old man, Mumtaz Hussein, was injured in his head when the roof of his house collapsed in Gultha village of Mendhar in Poonch district.
Hussein was shifted to a government sub-district hospital in Mendhar for treatment. Block Medical Officer Dr Parvaiz Ahmad Khan said that Hussein’s condition is stable however he remains admitted in the medical facility.
Reports said four houses and a school building also suffered damages in the Harni area of the district in the Jammu division. Waseem Ahmed Khan, the village-head of Harni told reporters that they were still collecting the details of the damages caused by the winds. However, he said that there has been no loss of life or injury in his village.
In Kashmir’s Bijbehara, a school roof also collapsed due to the strong winds.
An official said, “The rooftop of government middle school in Nowshera of Bijbehara collapsed after heavy rainfall and strong winds on Tuesday morning.”
He said, “The students of the school had to face problems due to inclement weather.”
Heavy rains which continued for the third day on Tuesday triggered landslides and blocked the Srinagar-Jammu highway even as the weatherman predicted more rain and snow during the next 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir.
