Suspected militants are believed to have escaped after a brief encounter with armed forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar, officials said on Saturday.

The encounter had started between militants and government forces in the Noor Bagh area of the historic city.
A joint team of police and paramilitary CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area situated on the northern fringes of Srinagar’s Old City.
As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.
A senior police officer also confirmed to exchange of firing between militants and forces to a local news agency.
As per the sources two to three militants were believed to be trapped but managed to escape the cordon.
In the subsequent searches, government forces recovered a pistol from the area, sources said.
