Four unidentified militants were killed and an armed forces personnel was injured in an encounter with government forces on Monday in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
Armed forces launched a cordon and search operation in Manihal area of the district around midnight following information about presence of militants there, a police official said.
He said a gunbattle broke out couple of hours later when militants opened fire on the forces who retaliated.
The forces asked the militants to surrender but they refused the offer, the official said. In the exchange of fire four ultras were
killed, the official said adding further details were awaited.
Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, Internet services have been snapped in the Shopian district.
