Firing along 10-km Kashmir LoC stretch, Indian army officer dead

A Junior Commissioned Officer of the Indian army was slain as cross Line of Control shelling was reported in Nowshera sector of Indian-administered Kashmir late on Friday.

Reports said the armies of the two nuclear armed nations fired mortars at each other with both accusing each other of breaching the ceasefire.

Indian army officials said that the exchange of fire began from 03:25pm in areas of Nowshera sector with Jahanger forward post and Makdi villages worst affected.

The exchange of fire lasted for several hours, reports said.

“More than ten kilometers of LoC stretch was under intense mortar shelling and post to post fire,” the Indian army said.

They said that an army Naib Subedar deployed on forward location in Saryah area got injured in the firing and succumbed later on during treatment. The slain JCO has been identified as Naib Subedar Ravinder Kumar.
