Covid-19 resurgence: Jammu varsity, five Srinagar areas declared containment zone

As Covid-19 cases continue to surge, Jammu and Kashmir authorities have declared more areas as containment zones, health officials said on Sunday.

The authorities have declared Jammu University and its adjacent areas as a micro-containment zone after 43 persons were found Covid-19 positive in the varsity during a random sampling.

The officials said that a team of health and medical education department carried out random sampling in the Jammu University and most of the positive cases are from the girls’ hostel of the varsity.

District Magistrate Jammu, Anshul Garg issued an order declaring the area in and around the varsity as a micro-containment zone.

The order issued under section 144, stated that the area in and around the University shall remain under restrictions of micro-containment with strict lockdown and no inward and outward movement except for essential needs.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, who is also Deputy Commissioner for Srinagar declared five more areas as micro containment zones in the district.

The five micro containment zones include Umarabad 90feet road, Umer Haer Buchpora near Masjid Usman, Nowhsehra main stop near Hubbi Masjid, Bhagat near Jamia Masjid, Batmaloo PCR near Jamia Masjid and National Institute of Technology Hazratbal.

The areas were notified as micro containment zones after the detection of many Covid-19 positive cases in these areas on Saturday.

“People living within a radius of 50 to 75 meters from these areas shall restrict their movement as medical teams complete surveillance and testing as per protocol,” the DC said in a fresh notification.
