‘Change in the dynamics of Kashmir resistance techniques’: TRF as Srinagar witnesses ’90s-like crackdown’

Pro freedom armed group, The Resistance Front, on Monday warned about more attacks amid a high alert in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

The statement on messaging app, Telegram, by the TRF comes on a day Srinagar witnessed two ‘surprise cordon and search operations’ following two attacks by militants last week that led to the killing of two policemen and injured an eatery owner’s son in high security areas of the city.

The TRF statement read: “Change in the dynamics of Kashmir Resistance techniques. We will strike there where the occupational regime will never ever imagine or think of.”

Although the police claim that three newly recruited militants of the TRF who carried out the attack in Durganag while the 24 diplomats from various nations were staying barely 200 metres away in a hotel, have been arrested, the gunman who shot dead two policemen on the high security airport road remains at large.

After the last week’s attacks, the government forces have placed new arrangements on the ground, which include ‘surprise cordon and search operations, flash checkpoints and placing snipers on high rise buildings’.

On Monday, the government forces conducted two ‘surprise cordon and search’ operations in the city, one in Baghat, where the two policemen were shot dead, and another in Amira Kadal, a busy market next to commercial hub Lal Chowk.

“It is like the crackdown of the 90’s is back. I have not seen this in a long time, even though I am not seeing this for the first time,” a local, who runs a jewellery business in the area, told a news website about the searches and frisking in Amira Kadal.

The pro-Article 370 leadership in Kashmir had condemned the killing of two policemen who were unarmed. In an apparent reference to their condemnation, the TRF statement noted: ‘all those installations and all those stooges will be targeted alongside the occupational mercenary forces those help the occupational Indian regime’.
