Budgam: 7 village-heads quit, another alleges militant threat; police probe

A day after seven members of a village-committee resigned in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district, a village head of another village has filed a police complaint alleging that he was threatened by militants who asked him to quit his post.

Ghulam Hasan Rasray, the village-head or Sarpanch of Chewa in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, told the police that alleged militants had threatened him over the telephone and have asked him to quit his post within two or three days.

Police sources told local news gathering agency Kashmir News Trust unknown militant warned Rasray of dire consequences in case he didn’t resign from the post of Sarpanch.

Seven village-committee members or Panchs including two women from Batapora of Magam area in Budgam resigned at Block Development Office in Narbal on Thursday.

Police sources told KNT that they are ascertaining the reason behind their resignation.
