3 recently recruited rebels, one trained in Pahalgam forest, held in Krishna Dhaba attack: Kashmir police chief

The Inspector General of Police for Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, on Friday said that three newly recruited militants who carried out an attack on the son of the owner of Krishna Dhabar in Srinagar’s Dalgate on a day 24 foreign delegates were in the valley on a guided tour, have been arrested.

“We acted swiftly and constituted teams under the supervision of DIG rank officer that was headed  by SP (South City). A civilian called SP South city that attackers were riding a bike after which we accessed the CCTV footage and followed other inputs,” the IGP said.

He said following “certain leads” police arrested two youth who were involved in the attack.

On Wednesday, militants fired upon son of “Krishna dhaba” at a time when envoys of 24 countries were staying in a hotel 200 metres away from the site of the attack.

 “The  bike used in the offence and pistol were seized. After interrogating the duo, they revealed that third person was also involved in the crime. He was also arrested. All three were newly recruited militants and one of them was given pistol training in the forest area of Pahalgam,” Kumar said.

“Two arrested youth hail from Pampore and third one is from Pulwama.”

He said that three youth were working for The Resistance Front commander named Gazi, who had tasked the trio to strike at Krishna Dhab where tourist rush is always high.

In an Urdu letter circulated on the internet Muslim Janbaz Force has claimed responsibility for the attack. The militant group said that they will not allow Indians to buy land and will resists the attempts to change the demography of the region.

He said that all three arrested youth have accepted the crime and “we have recorded their confession statement in a video to be produced before the court along with the challan.” “We have cracked the case in 24 hours and it is a big success for us,” he said.
