A 62-year-old man was hacked to death by his sons in the Ellahi Bagh area of Soura in Srinagar outskirts, police said on Saturday.

In a statement, a police spokesman said that on April 7, 2022, an unidentified dead body was lying in Dal Lake near Akhoon Mohalla, Foreshore road.

“Subsequently, the body was fished out from the lake and shifted to the hospital for medico-legal formalities. The body was identified as Khurshid Ahmad Tota, son of Ghulam Nabi Tota of Elahibagh, Soura (aged 62),” the statement said.

“After medical formalities, the dead body was handed over to its legal heirs. The preliminary medical report revealed marks on the neck and it came to light that the deceased has been murdered by unknown persons who then threw the body into the Dal Lake,” reads the police statement.

Accordingly, a case under FIR number 34/2022 under section 302, 120 B IPC, 201 IPC was registered in Police Station Nigeen, and an investigation was taken up.
